“40 Years Celebrating the Arts”
Join us in celebrating 40 years of the Marshall Regional Arts Council by participating in our annual judged art show. Submit your favorite artwork that showcases the talents of our region and honor the 40 year tradition of supporting the arts!
ELIGIBLE – Must be 18 or older. Must be a resident of MRAC Tri-county of Harrison, Marion or Panola counties OR be a member of the Marshall Art League
All artists will be required to submit a 6”x6” silent auction canvas in addition to their competition entry. These canvases will be provided at the time of registration and will be due on the Artwork Due Date, Monday, July 1st from Noon – 5 p.m at the MVAC. These will be donated to MRAC for a silent auction, July 25th. The 6”X6” may be interpreted at the artist’s discretion in any medium as long as it fits the canvas. All funds raised as a result of the silent auction will go to the MRAC as a part of their Membership Drive. Participation is not optional; it is a condition of entry. Anyone not returning this piece of art will have their entry piece removed from the competition.
FEE – $25 ENTRY FEE – Artists entering must pay the entry fee and submit it with a Judged Art Show Entry Form. By entering the competition the artist becomes a member of MRAC at the “Friends” level. The artist is then eligible to vote for their People’s Choice favorite and enter their name in the drawing for the Grand Prize.
JUDGING – This art show will be judged for 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and honorable mention prizes by a professional artist the day of Thursday, July 25th, 2019. All entries will be accepted into the show.
$1000 GRAND PRIZE – All entries are eligible. Participants of the MRAC Membership Drive that make tax-deductible contributions of $25 will receive one chance to win their choice of any piece of entered artwork. When the winner is announced they will choose their favorite piece of art and the artist whose work is chosen will be the recipient of a $1000 grand Prize. There is no limit to the number of memberships or donations an individual may make.
$100 PEOPLES CHOICE – All members of MRAC may vote by ballot for their favorite artwork. The artist with the most votes will receive $100.
RECEPTION – Thursday, July 25th, 2019 at the Marshall Visual Art Center, 202 East Burleson Street, from 5- p.m. – 7 p.m. This will be the time when the artists showcase their artwork entry. The Silent Auction will be held and winners of the competition announced. Please plan to bring finger foods, soft drinks, water or wine for all to enjoy. MRAC Board of Directors will also be asked to bring food for the reception.
SALES – Art entries sold during or as a result of this exhibition will be subject to a 15% sales price commission to the MRAC. A sale of any entry is contingent on the non-selection as the Grand Prize winner and may be finalized after July 25th.
FAIRNESS – There will be NO EXCEPTIONS to the entry delivery dates/times. If your are unable to deliver your work for any reason please make arrangements to have it delivered during the times provided.
PICKING UP ARTWORK – After the closing reception on Thursday, July 25th, artists may pick up their entries. If you cannot be at the reception, please make arrangements with a friend or other artist in advance or call Mrs. Simpson (903-935-7620) or Mrs. Weekly (903-935-4484).
DISCLAMER OF LIABILITY
Your artwork is shown in the 2017 MARSHALL REGIONAL ARTS COUNCIL MEMBERSHIP ART COMPETITION at your own risk and not the risk of the Marshall Regional Arts Council (MRAC), Marshall Visual Arts Center (MVAC) or any of the exhibitors. There will NOT be security guards during the exhibit of the works. Artwork is NOT insured by MRAC or MVAC. MRAC and MVAC will take reasonable precautions during handling and hanging to protect your art, but will NOT be responsible for loss or damage. Neither the MRAC nor the MVAC assumes any liability for the preservation of artwork vulnerable to changes in temperature and humidity or artwork submitted on frames, pedestals or other supports.
RECOMMENDATION – Artist may want to consider insuring their artwork. Most homeowner’s insurance policies will add your artwork to a policy for minimum premium, without a deductible.
